چکیده

Generators are frequently subjected to high currents and voltages caused by electrical disturbances in the power system. Faults in particular subject the generator to stresses beyond its design limits and cause high temperature increase, amplify and distort air gap torques, and create unbalanced flux densities. Even more stressful as a consequence of faults are sudden loss of load, fault clearance and reclosing. Mechanically, the abnormal forces that are generated excite the rotor and as a result, amplify the shaft’s normal mode of oscillation. The objective of this paper is to present the results on the experiment conducted regarding the effects of selected types of electrical faults on generators vibration signatures. It aims to examine the generated vibration frequencies, changes in rotor shaft orbits and increase in vibration magnitudes as a result of faults.

Analysis of Magnetic Flux Linkage Distribution in Salient-Pole Synchronous Generator with Different Kinds of Inter-Turn Winding Faults

A reliable and accurate diagnosis of inter-turn short circuit faults is a challenging problem in the area of fault diagnosis of electrical machines. The purpose of this challenge is to be more efficient in fault detection and to provide a reliable method with low-cost sensors and simple numerical algorithms which not only detect the occurrence of the fault, but also locate its position in the w...

Remote Health Monitoring for Offshore Machines, using Fully Automated Vibration Monitoring and Diagnostics

This paper describes the use of vibration analysis with a fully automated diagnostics system to detect common machine faults such as imbalance and misalignment as well as bearing and gearbox faults of offshore machines. Other faults types, e.g. when a large object hits the propeller blades may be detected using the STFT. As the mechanical properties of the structure can change because of change...

Identification of a Shaft Thermal Bow by Means of Model-based Diagnostic Techniques

Abstract The most important faults of rotating machines can be modelled by means of proper sets of equivalent excitations having a suitable harmonic content. Therefore, mathematical models of rotating machines can be used by fault identification techniques that compare the experimental vibration data to the corresponding theoretical response of the rotor-system caused by a specific set of excit...

Non-Stationary Spectral Estimation for Wind Turbine Induction Generator Faults Detection

Development of large scale offshore wind and marine current turbine farms implies to minimize and predict maintenance operations. In director indirect-drive, fixedor variable-speed turbine generators, advanced signal processing tools are required to detect and diagnose the generator faults from vibration, acoustic, or generator current signals. The induction generator is traditionally used for ...

Vibration-based Fault Detection of Wind Turbine Gearbox using Empirical Mode Decomposition Method

Vibration based monitoring techniques are widely adopted for monitoring the condition of rotating machinery. However, in the case of wind turbines the measured vibration is complex due to the high number of vibration sources and modulation phenomenon. Signals are generated by tooth meshing, shaft rotation, gearbox resonance vibration signatures and a substantial amount of noise. Therefore, extr...
